I have recently began to work on new line of compositions which I currently call Hidden Electronics.
The idea is that improvisers are duetting with music which is obscured from them – they can’t actually hear it, but which they partly expose themselves through their playing (what they hear of the counterpart depends on what they play). Basically, with their playing the musicians carve a “spectral hole” into the barrier behind which their counterpart is hidden. The electronics were programmed using Pure Data.
The first rendition of the Hidden Electronics was arranged for Cellist Dan Weinstein and was initially included in the War Again project at Musraramix 2013. Here is a recording of the second performance, from Levontin 7 in Tel-Aviv.
