I am involved with a series of exciting events in Bucharest this week:
First, this Sunday, September 15, at 11:00am (!), the Hyperion Ensemble will play a concert of Spectral and experimental music at the George Enescu festival. The concert will showcase three new pieces by Hyperion leaders Iancu Dumitrescu and one by Ana Maria Avram.
The concert will also include my new piece UURUT (step 1), which is my first foray into the vast and genteel world of Just Intonation pitch systems. There is also a new piece by Maya Dunietz and several pieces by Costin Cazaban and other Romanian composers.
It’s a rich program. Check it out here.
The ensemble is conducted by the wondrful Ilan Volkov and will feature guitarist Stephen O’Malley (Sunn O)))), percussionist Chris Cutler (Henry Cow, ReR Megacorp) and reedsman Tim Hodgkinson (Henry Cow).
Secondly, PRIMATE ARENA is collaborating with the lovely Buchatest’s arts/comics/sound platform SAMBATA SONORA and London’s CAFE OTO in organizing Bucharest’s FALSE festival – a three days event consisting of concerts, talks and presentations.
